Jake Payne, 01/08/1995, has been arrested and charged in the April 12 and April 13, 2017 arsons along the Cherry Creek Trail in Parker.
These fires forced multiple road and trail closures, caused concern for nearby businesses and residents and forced a school to go on lockout. There was an extensive use of resources by the Parker Police Department and South Metro Fire Rescue, including the use of a helicopter to help ensure the fires didn’t spread to nearby homes.
Mr. Payne appeared in court Wednesday, September 6, and bond was set at $5,000. His next hearing is a return filing of charges on September 11. These allegations are Class 3 Felonies with a presumptive sentencing range, if convicted, of 4-12 years. A mug shot of Mr. Payne has been included. The charges listed against the defendant are accusations and he is presumed innocent unless convicted.
We would like to thank South Metro Fire and Rescue’s Investigators, the Aurora Police Department Crime Lab and the Colorado Bureau of Investigation’s Crime Lab for their critical assistance in this investigation. It was through the collaborative work of these agencies that an arrest was made.
