A new email scam has made its way to Parker.
Residents are receiving an email that says someone knows that you visit porn sites, has your internet history, photos of you and they are going to expose this information…and you! They will share this information with your friends, family and co-workers. Of course you can always pay the security fee so the person will delete the files.
Don’t pay. It’s just a scare tactic.
The Better Business Bureau has issued warnings throughout the country about this new porn blackmail scam. The scammers have some information that scares people into believing that their ruse is true. They have user names and passwords and are sending these via email to legitimize their claim. These types of scams are more effective when the scammer has a piece of information that sounds more convincing. Old usernames and passwords can be floating around the dark web from numerous data breaches and underscore the importance of periodically changing your passwords.
If you would like to learn what you can do to protect yourself and what to do if you get scammed, please join Detective Tyler Herman this Thursday for a Fraud/ID Theft class at the Parker Police Department.
