Monday, December 17, we saw the usefulness of the Amber Alert system as it assisted the Northglenn Police Department locate and 18 month old boy. Unfortunately, criminals are now trying to use this successful program to scam residents.
Last week a citizen received a phone call from a woman who called herself “Natalia”. The woman claimed she was with the “Child Care AMBER Alert System.” She stated she had Child ID Kits to provide to local citizens. She requested the citizen set up an appointment at either 8:00 or 9:00 p.m. at the citizen’s home and implied that the children should be present. The citizen accepted the offer, but later worried about the truthfulness of the caller and texted “Natalia” to cancel the appointment.
While the Colorado Bureau of Investigation Amber Alert Team does have Child ID Kits, they DO NOT personally deliver them to requestor’s homes. Please report any related incidents to Colorado Bureau of Investigation AMBER Alert Coordinator Jillian Ganley at firstname.lastname@example.org or 303-239-4459.
