Jim Tsurapas has been appointed Chief of Police for the Parker Police Department, effective June 13, by Town Administrator Michelle Kivela.

“I am honored to have been appointed as the Chief of Police for the Parker Police Department. I know this position comes with both a tremendous amount of opportunity and an enormous responsibility. The Parker Police Department has an outstanding reputation for community collaboration and policing excellence. I look forward to the opportunity of continuing to build upon the strong foundation of this department and providing continued success.”

Town Administrator Michelle Kivela announced Chief Tsurapas’ promotion today along with Mary Colton as Director of Parks and Recreation. “Over the past few months, I have witnessed Jim and Mary excel as Acting Directors under the most unusual and trying of circumstances. Through their actions, they have demonstrated expertise in their fields, as well as strong leadership abilities, and they have my full support in their new roles.”

Chief Tsurapas added, “We have faced some very unique challenges during these past few months, in particular the COVID-19 pandemic. As a department, we were prepared early and took great care of our staff during this unprecedented time.  I am grateful and proud of the dedication demonstrated by the men and women of this department and their perseverance through this public health crisis. Through all of this, we have continued to focus on the service aspect of policing and remember the people we serve.”

Chief Tsurapas began his career with the Parker Police Department in 1993 as a volunteer reserve officer and was hired on as a full-time officer in 1995. He has since been promoted through the ranks as a Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and in 2016, he was named Deputy Chief. Following the retirement of Chief King, Tsurapas was named Interim Chief of Police on January 1, 2020.

In the coming weeks, we will host a virtual Meet the Chief where residents can learn more about the new Chief, ask him questions and learn more about his vision in an online forum.
